AI

2023 - Present

Software

🪴 I have tried:
-Dream by Wombo
-Stable Diffusion
-Pixai (mostly using this)
-others: Midjourney, etc.

🪴 Photoshop: editing & painting on top

Purpose

1) As reference in the initial ideation stage: First time I used AI was at my previous workplace as a game concept artist in early 2023. I have used generative AI tools only for the initial brainstorming stage to start the discussion and ideation going before sketching the character. I would treat the generated images just like any other reference images I gather online.

2) As bases for full illustrations for my music composition works: For my music composition videos, I have been using generative AI for full illustration bases as I don’t have time to do full art for all of my music videos each month.

-It cuts time but still requires 1.5~4+ hours altogether on prompting and drawing / editing in Photoshop for the best results.
-recently I started to create thumbnails to feed into AI to get the compositions as I wanted (more steps and time required, but higher chance of getting the right image!)

Process

1) Explore different wordings for the prompt with varied combinations of AI model & LoRA and other settings.
🌿 If prompts don’t get me the result I want even after a few tries, I then quickly draw a graphic sketch / thumbnails to be fed to AI to get the image closer to what I am thinking in mind in terms of composition.

2) After exploring enough sketches, I select the ones with good compositions and explore variations of those selections until I find the one that can work as the base for a full illustration.

3) The final selections are then processed for higher resolutions and details.

🌿 Image above: A raw high resolution image from an AI tool - horses have weird looking / too many legs, some soldiers need a lot of edit.

4) I then use Photoshop to upscale the images even further so that I can paint the details and edit to finalize the illustration.

GALLERY

Here are some of the the images I created using AI & painting on top for my music composition videos.

- Note that some of the landscape pieces are not edited at all while a lot of the ones with characters often had 3+ hours of me painting / editing.

- If I had more time, I would definitely put more hours to perfect each piece, but these were good enough for the purposes.
